In Jerusalem the car is usually not the problem - the parking is. So a good share of the people who rent from us are city residents who do not keep a car of their own and rent one for the days they genuinely need it: a day out, a trip to the centre, moving something, or a family occasion out of town.

Car rental for new and young drivers in Jerusalem

Jerusalem is a city of students and of young people who mostly do not keep a car - parking is expensive, public transport is reasonable, and a car is needed mainly on particular days. The result is that here of all places the most common enquiry we get comes from someone recently licensed who needs a car for a day or a weekend, not for the whole year.

A new driver and a young driver are not the same thing

The two terms get mixed up constantly, and the difference between them genuinely matters. A new driver is defined by licence seniority - anyone within the first two years of being licensed, at any age. A young driver is defined by age - under 24, regardless of seniority. You can certainly be one without being the other: someone of 30 who passed their test yesterday is a new driver but not a young one, and someone of 22 with three years on their licence is young but not new.

The distinction matters because both groups run into the same barriers. With us both can rent, and on the same terms.

What that means in practice at the Jerusalem branch

You can rent from age 17, from day one of your licence and with no driving experience required. The basic insurance - compulsory, third-party and comprehensive - applies to a new or young driver exactly as it does to any other renter; the only difference is the excess, which is higher and can be reduced for an additional charge. It is shown at the coverage and insurance step of the booking. A "new driver" plate is waiting for you at the branch at no cost.

Note an obligation that the law sets rather than us: a new driver under 24 needs an accompanying driver with driving seniority for the first six months of their licence. After those six months no accompanying driver is required, but a "new driver" plate is needed until two years from licensing.
