Dear customer,
Thank you for choosing Hoshen Car. Your booking has been received and the vehicle is reserved for you.
Below is everything worth knowing before pickup - what to bring, what is included, and what happens if something changes. It takes a few minutes to read and saves surprises at the counter.
1. What to bring on pickup day
A valid driving licence
You must present a valid plastic driving licence in the driver’s name. The licence must remain valid for at least 14 days beyond the return date.
With a temporary (paper) licence you must also present an ID card. If your licence has expired, a duplicate can be issued on the Ministry of Transport website before you arrive.
Identification
You must present a valid ID card or passport in the renter’s name.
A credit card
You must present a valid Israeli credit card in the renter’s name, with sufficient available credit for the deposit. Deposit details are in the "Deposit and credit card" section below.
Foreign licences and tourists
A holder of a foreign driving licence may drive in Israel for up to 6 months from their most recent entry into the country. A valid passport and visa must be presented.
2. Who may drive
Age and licence tenure
The minimum age to drive our vehicles is 17. Age and tenure are verified against the licence itself at pickup, and cannot be waived.
Young or new drivers
A driver is considered "young or new" if they are under 24, or have held a licence for less than 2 years.
A young or new driver may be subject to a surcharge, and a higher deductible applies. Exact amounts are shown on the booking page.
Additional drivers
You may add up to 5 additional drivers, at ₪25 per day (₪450 per month on a monthly rental).
Every additional driver must be named in the agreement and meet the same age, tenure and licence requirements as the renter.
Named drivers only
Only a driver named in the rental agreement may drive the vehicle. If an unnamed person drives it, no insurance coverage whatsoever applies and the renter is liable for the full damage, with no deductible ceiling.
The same applies to driving without a supervising passenger where the law requires one, and to driving while disqualified or suspended.
3. The vehicle you booked
A vehicle group, not a model
Your booking is for a vehicle group - not a specific model, colour or registration. The models shown on the site are representative of the group. The vehicle supplied will be from that group or from a higher one, at no extra charge.
Vehicle replacement during the rental
We may replace the vehicle during the rental for maintenance, safety or availability reasons, with one from the same group or higher. The rental terms continue to apply to the replacement vehicle.
Vehicle handover
The vehicle is supplied in sound, clean and roadworthy condition, with all required documents and accessories. Its condition is recorded at handover. We recommend inspecting the vehicle together with our representative and raising anything you notice before you drive off.
4. Pickup and return
The rental day
A rental day ends the following morning. The vehicle must be returned by the branch’s opening hour (even if a later time appears on the booking), unless agreed otherwise in advance. Opening hours for all branches are listed at the foot of this page.
Late return
You have a 60-minute grace period after the return time, at no charge. Beyond that, a further full rental day is charged, together with any add-ons purchased for that booking.
Returning when the branch is closed
You may return the vehicle while the branch is closed. It is treated as returned and charging stops at the actual time of return. Until the keys are handed to a company representative, the vehicle remains the renter’s responsibility.
Night pickup
Pickup from 20:00 can be arranged in advance, with a night-service charge of ₪50. It is subject to prior arrangement and availability.
Early return
Returning the vehicle before the end of the rental period does not automatically entitle you to a refund for the unused period. The period actually used is charged at the rate applicable to it, which may differ from the rate quoted for the original period.
5. Cancellation, changes and no-shows
Cancellation policy
We understand that plans change. You may cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before pickup.
Cancelling closer to pickup incurs a fee as follows: the price of one rental day when cancelling up to 24 hours before pickup; 20% of the order total, but never more than the price of one rental day when cancelling between 24 and 48 hours before pickup.
A cancellation fee never exceeds the order total.
Failing to collect the vehicle
Failing to collect the vehicle without notifying us is treated as a no-show 120 minutes after the scheduled pickup time, and is charged the price of one rental day.
A no-show is not a cancellation and different rules apply to it. If you cannot make it, telling us in advance - by any means - is always better.
Changing a booking
You may request a change to the dates, vehicle group or branch. Changes are subject to availability and re-pricing: the original price is not preserved, and the difference may fall either way. A change takes effect only once we have confirmed it.
Cancellation by the company
We may decline or cancel a booking - among other reasons, where the rental conditions are not met, where the vehicle is unavailable for reasons outside our control, or where misuse is suspected. In such a case any amount you paid is refunded in full, and if you have been inconvenienced we will gladly help find an alternative.
6. Price, payment and VAT
What the price includes
The price shown on your booking covers use of the vehicle for the period booked, the kilometre allowance that applies to it, and basic insurance coverage. Add-ons, extended coverage and accessories are priced separately and appear in your booking breakdown.
VAT
Prices on this site include VAT at 18%. Any change to the VAT rate or its applicability will be reflected in the price accordingly.
VAT exemption for tourists
A tourist holding a foreign passport and an appropriate visa may be exempt from VAT on the rental. Eligibility is assessed at pickup, against the original documents.
The booking window
You may book up to 90 days in advance. A booking that is started but not completed expires automatically within 1 hours, and the vehicle is released for others to book.
7. Mileage and fuel
Kilometre allowance
Every rental day includes a kilometre allowance: between 30 and 4,000 km, depending on the vehicle group and the rate type. The allowance for this booking is shown in your booking breakdown.
Exceeding the allowance
Kilometres beyond the allowance are charged at between ₪1 and ₪3.50 per km, depending on the vehicle group and the rate type. An extended kilometre package can be purchased in advance at a reduced rate - worth doing before you set off rather than afterwards.
Fuel
The vehicle is supplied with a full tank and must be returned with one. A vehicle returned short of fuel is charged for the missing fuel at the pump price on the day of return, plus a handling fee of ₪30. A refuelling service can be arranged in advance.
Wrong fuel type
Filling the vehicle with a fuel type other than the one specified by the manufacturer can cause severe engine damage. Such damage is not covered by insurance and the renter bears the full cost of repair. The fuel type is marked on the fuel filler cap.
8. Insurance and deductible
Insurance coverage
The vehicle carries compulsory, comprehensive and third-party insurance. Coverage is subject to the policy terms and to the rental agreement.
Deductible
A deductible applies to any damage, accident or theft. Its amount is set by vehicle group and driver type, and is stated on the booking page and in the rental agreement.
A higher deductible applies to a young or new driver.
Our recommendation
Coverage that reduces or waives the deductible can be purchased for an additional charge, either when booking or at pickup. It is worth considering - the cost of the coverage is far lower than the deductible it saves.
What is not covered
Insurance does not apply - among other cases - to: driving by anyone not named in the agreement; driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; driving while disqualified; use in breach of the agreement; and continuing to drive while a dashboard warning light is on.
In these cases the renter is liable for the full damage, with no deductible ceiling. Full details are in the rental agreement.
9. Deposit and credit card
Deposit
A credit hold is placed as a deposit when you collect the vehicle. The amount is held, not charged - it is released at the end of the rental, subject to the vehicle being returned as agreed.
The deposit is set by branch and driver type; the amount for this booking is shown on the booking page. Please make sure sufficient credit is available in advance.
Cards we cannot accept
Immediate-debit cards (Direct), prepaid cards and cards without a credit facility cannot be used. Such a card cannot support a deposit hold, and the vehicle therefore cannot be released.
A card not in the renter’s name
If the credit card is not in the renter’s name, the cardholder must be present at pickup and present identification. Card details cannot be given over the phone. Exceptions for immediate family are approved only in advance and case by case.
10. Tolls, tickets and fines
Toll roads
Driving on toll roads (such as Highway 6 or the Carmel Tunnels) incurs a handling fee of ₪40, in addition to the actual toll.
Traffic and parking tickets
Each traffic or parking ticket issued during the rental incurs a handling fee of ₪70, in addition to the ticket itself. Payment of the ticket is the renter’s responsibility.
A tip
If you plan to use Highway 6, a personal subscription directly with the road operator saves the handling fee. Remember to cancel it at the end of the rental to avoid future charges.
11. Shabbat and Jewish holidays
Shabbat observance
Hoshen Car is a Shabbat-observant company. Any use of or driving in our vehicles on Shabbat and Jewish holidays is strictly prohibited.
Breach of Shabbat observance
Using the vehicle on Shabbat or a Jewish holiday is a fundamental breach of the rental agreement and incurs an agreed penalty of ₪1,500. In addition, no insurance coverage whatsoever applies to driving on Shabbat or a holiday, and any damage caused falls entirely on the renter.
12. Use of the vehicle and restrictions
Duty of care
The renter undertakes to drive with care and in accordance with traffic law, to keep the vehicle in sound condition and to lock it whenever it is left. If a dashboard warning light comes on, stop and contact us.
Leaving the country
Taking the vehicle outside the borders of the State of Israel, including into Palestinian Authority areas, is strictly prohibited. Doing so voids insurance coverage entirely.
Prohibited uses
The vehicle may not be used - among other things - to: carry passengers or goods for payment; tow or push another vehicle; take part in racing, competitions or driving lessons; drive on unpaved roads or off-road; carry hazardous materials; carry more than the permitted load; or sub-let to a third party.
Smoking
Smoking in our vehicles is prohibited. A vehicle returned with signs of smoking is charged the actual cost of cleaning and odour treatment.
13. Accident, damage or theft
What to do in an accident or theft
In any accident, damage or theft, notify us and the police immediately, and do not admit liability or settle at the scene.
Collect the other party’s and any witnesses’ details, photograph the scene, and wait for our instructions. We are available and will guide you.
Failure to report
Failing to report an accident or damage, or reporting it partially or misleadingly, may void insurance coverage entirely and leave the renter liable for the full damage. Reporting promptly is in your own interest.
Damage found at return
The vehicle’s condition is inspected on return. Damage that was not recorded at handover is treated as having occurred during the rental. If damage is found, we will inform you and show you the documentation.
14. General
Privacy
The details you provide for the booking are processed in accordance with our privacy policy, published on this site. Vehicles may be fitted with tracking devices, used for security, recovery in the event of theft, and fleet management.
Notices
Notices from us are sent to the contact details provided with the booking - email, phone or SMS. It is the renter’s responsibility to inform us of any change to those details.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. A booking already made is governed by the terms in force when it was made, as accepted by you.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel. Exclusive jurisdiction over any matter arising from them lies with the competent courts of the Jerusalem District.
